"Mario Nigro. Works 1947-1992" - First room, Museo del Novecento, Milano

On several occasions, his creative breakthroughs first came about in drawing, which in his work often appeared as a combination of linear structure and chromatic effusion. It was a tangible space where he framed the relationship between the rationality and emotion that underpinned his entire pictorial process, which he viewed as a search for the “intimate structure of man”. In it, he never sought composition as an end in itself: his drawing has no mimetic or illustrative dimension, nor is it simply a purely formal compositional exercise.
